Howdy ya'll.
Sorry I have been away for a few days. Was working and not sleeping over a thesis committee meeting. Now, all is well.. we are in a winter storm watch, and it's MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND. Erg. I always defend my birthday month, but sometimes it even gets ME down. I originally thought my birthday was on SuperBowl Sunday, but no, "they" had to go and make that a February thing. I am a big celebrater of birthdays. I am even one of those dorks that likes to scream/do a little dance/cheer right at the correct time of my birth (2am-ish). I'm weird, but that's nothing new. And in 26.9 years, I keep getting weirder. Yup, I turn 27 in less than 12 hours.

Luckily, in 26.9 years, I haven't gotten to that point where I want to lie about the age... rack my brain over what "it all means"... it's a number. I still don't feel 25. And I have been told I don't look even 25 yet either. So, basically, it just gives me a reason to throw the spotlight on me for 24 hours.

[Jenn... great story, btw. That only backs up this motto I developed long ago: "People are stupid." It answers a lot of questions for me.]

Anyone got any crazy birthday stories OR want to share any birthday wisdom/advice?

More things that make me go "Hmmm..":

-The high five (a good "Hmmm.."). We need to bring that back.
-People who say "dude" because I still do, and I am a nutcase.

Is there a doctor in the building? I think I am getting a cold. *knock on fake wood*

David, you rule. Thanks for finding that. I am reading up on so many different ways to "watch over" a community (mainly online), so that's cool you found a related article. I tell my students that if they are rude to others on the class blog (or are just plain inappropriate), they get deleted! I am a fantastic online watchdog!

Alisa: Stirrup pants. Exactly. (And you need to get over your Ben Stiller hatred.)

"The internet used to to distribute information about bad things": I hear both of you, really. The internet seems(ed) to have so many fabulous possiblities. It's sad to see virtual space cluttered with porno and sites showing people how to make Meth or bombs. Then again, that's why we filter. I don't have to watch crappy reality t.v. just like I don't have to look at some amateur webpage done by someone that has no clue how to use HTML or good design for that matter. I remember when I first got an email address.. this will date me, but it was my freshman year here (1995). All the email I got was porn. That and some important stuff. I guess when I signed up for it all, I was hoping it would be better.. better than snail mail. Is this a reflection of our society? Or maybe, having the bad out there shows us what the good stuff is?

I'm having a contemplative week.

The New York Times article I mentioned talks about the person who discovered the organized crime in the Sims online and was kicked out by Electronic Arts for doing so. I have a link to his blog the Alphaville Herald on my site which reports news from inside the Sims Online.

I agree with you Jeremiah about information. It is how information is used that can be evil not the information itself.

God Bless

Yea. John Travolta. You know that strut will NEVER go away. I can hear the disco music in my head *"Well, you can tell by the way I ____ my walk, I am a woman's man, no time to talk* ?? wait, What are the lyrics? It doesn't really matter.

Everyone have a great Martin Luther King Junior Day tomorrow!
