Topic of Week: "Things That Make You Go 'Hmm'."

SO glad to see all of you are alive... Yippee. Alive members = better community.
Jenn, thanks for the elaborate information! Awesome. I feel informed which is RARE. And thanks, Dave, for the SIMMS chunk of info. I am elbow-deep in action-based research right now, but I REALLY appreciate your find.

"Things That Make You Go 'Hmmm'.":
Why do I feel weird/odd/wrong saying: "What's up Dawg?" to some of my TA friends?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, my semester is filled with teaching controversially-themed Engl 120, writing/researching my thesis, and trying not to go off the deep end. Note to all of you: The main focus of my study on here will start Feb. 1.

Classes are gettting rolling again and so far the whole english major thing seems pretty good. In American Lit II I found the talk about Mark Twain fascinating especially the part about tall tales. I never realized before that tall tales were an American tradition and that there was an art to telling them. In writing studies we read 3 essays on writing drafts that I found to be really helpful too. The best part though is that I have no more math classes.

It's dissapointing to see the internet used to to distribute information about bad things but that's the dark side of the freedom of speech. It's good to know though that such things do not dominate the internet.

Sybil, there was an interest article on the frontpage of the New York Times yesterday about the online community in The Sims Online that you might want to check out.

God Bless

Jen, you rule. That's all I got. You seemed to have lived 5 lifetimes already. I am exhausted for you.

I will definitely come to you for info on this crazy drug.. and if I ever want to hear more about puke. :-) See, I think the worst smell is when you burp up Cheerios. Or hot dogs/polish sausage. I am not going to even go INTO the smells that Taco Bell (or Taco Hell, as we call it) gets out of me. But it's SUCH GOOD CHOW (Kevin will disagree, I'm sure. Darn vegetarians...).

I'll write more later.. gotta input some addresses so my night class students can blog on our class blog for this semester.

(note to everyone else on BB: Charles is a rockin' former student of mine from when I taught h.s.)

Hey Charles.. Chuck.. Wow. Yea, my cousin has always been a big guy.. and now he's much smaller and his hair is like.. falling out on top. I thought it was just our genetics (the guys on my mom's side have gone bald quickly), but WOW...

I am so glad I was/still am a nerd.

Awesome to see you on the BB Charles...

"Crazy Little Thing Called Meth."
David left me a comment on my vague entry below about this last weekend.. so here are my spilled guts:
The short of it goes like this- A long-lost cousin came into town Saturday morning, showed up at our house, told us some lies (I haven't seen him in about 5 yrs so to me they are lies), then left to hang out with a friend in town stating that he had arranged with this friend to stay with him. Not so much. Later that night, he calls us wanting to stay here, we call his dad, and he tells us that our long-lost cousin is on Meth: he's here because he's "running" and his last roomie is in prison for Meth. FANTASTIC, eh? So, my sis, Alisa, got the guts to call him, tell him to stop calling us, and we put a lock on our outside porch.

I've never so much as smoked a cigarette, so I have no clue how this Meth stuff works, but apparently.. it's bad stuff. Many people tell me it's easy to make and lots of towns have epidemics of it. Anyone else know more about this stuff??
Happy New Year to you too Jen...
Don't worry about forgetting about this blog. I won't take it personally *tears well up*. :-) We need you back on here for your stories and opinions!!

You'd think that this weather would make me more appreciative of the warm summers. "think" = key word.
