I'll take your challenge Jennifer. First off what is the statement "us so called 'Americans'" supposed to mean? Are there rules of conduct that all Americans are supposed to follow in order to be called Americans? You also seem to be attacking Americans exclusively as if we are the only culture that laughs at the stupidity of others. I point to the Japanese television show Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, which is based entirely on making people do stupid things for prizes. Also, Shakespeare, a man considered to be one of the greatest play writes of all time, uses sight gags where people hurt themselves doing stupid things. I know when I slip and fall I just laugh at myself because I realize how ridiculous I looked and find it quite funny myself and as an extra bonus I can feel a little better about myself knowing that the day of all those other people who laughed at me has been made just a little more interesting because they just say some guy slip and fall. If something that simple can make people happy then I will gladly fall each time I slip on ice.

Finals are almost here and there is but one day of class left. I'm almost an English major, I just have to make it through my last two math finals than I won't have to deal with Fibonacci functions again for at least a semester(depends on whether or not I go for that Computer Science minor). I pray that everybody does well on their finals and that none of you find F's in your stockings.

Its Bob Barkers 80th birthday on Saturday so CBS is having a special Million Dollar Price is Right on Saturday at 7 pm. I'm having a little shindig at my place, and I hope all the rest of you are able to watch preferably with a bunch of people as there really is nothing like having a crowd of people yelling prices at a TV when you know darn well that the people on the TV can't hear you. Heck, I even have homemade salsa coming. I don't think a Saturday night could get much better.

Cool cool. I get where you are coming from, Jeremiah. I think when I hear "neo" I freak out and think of the "neo Nazis" and automatically get a yucky taste in my mouth.. simliar to having hot soup burn the tip of the tongue. But yea, I am very non-commercial/non-corporation based... makes me think of conformity. Ew. {p.s. Trying to control my hair would be a part-time job.}

And I guess I just want this to be inexpensive for people to use. I am assuming that that will encourage participation more than having people pay. Maybe I am wrong. I haven't proven this either way yet.

On a more personal note: f f f f e e w w *wipes brow* ... I am glad to be done with class evals today. Those darn fill in the circle thingies make me nervous. And, here's a question, why don't we use those things versus professor's observations for references? Shouldn't it matter more that students were able to learn more than what another teacher finds is happening in your class. Another person can only see surface stuff unless a student speaks up. Students should write up teacher's references for jobs. Just a ? that comes from my own observation.

My eyes are starting to dry out from inputing grades today, so this will be a sign-off. More later. Off to Derek Powazek's book. From National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: "It's good. It's good." <-- Chevy drinking the eggnog.

Hey all... especially to long lost Jennifer! :-)

I shall soon find out through my online community readings what should be going on and what I should be doing more of.

BUT UNTIL THAT HAPPENS, here's the scoop:

-So, what's the definition of a "neo hippie".. and why am I one? Please explain. I don't get it.. but then again, my brain is getting more tired as the semester comes to an end.
-After emailing a person that's going to the same conference as me in April (and blabbing to Kevin), I found out all about RSS feeds.. and even Kevin said that I should know about these things if I am going to call myself a blogger. Heck, I should know A LOT by now, but I don't. So this other dude is going to catch me up on the technical stuff I have been neglecting because I have been worrying about the teaching/personal aspects of blogging. I thought I was a geek, but apparently, there is a layer of geekdom I have not entered.
-My quote by Mr. Huntington was meant for us to question.. and comment on, and I am glad some did. As for my own thoughts on it, I like the quote because our society sometimes does not see beyond itself. Students will blindly say that we are the best nation.. and that certain religions are wrong because they accept violence.. but they don't look at the WHOLE picture. Plus, I think making other conform to our ways is just.. wrong (for lack of better word). When we try to make other conform to our ways, we are saying that our ways are the only ways. That American culture is superior.. and it isn't.
-Poetry Slams. I think it'd be fun to blog about our poems on here.

Must go teach. Later!

I saw the play Proof ealier tonight. It was incredible, I wanted to give a standing ovation but I wasn't quite sure what the rules were for giving one. I didn't want to be rude and thought that maybe there was some respectful way that standing ovations were supposed to be given, that they were supposed to be given only by certain people, or that maybe this just wasn't the proper venue for a standing ovation. I need to find this out before I go to any more performances so that I can properly show how truly amazed I was by the performers work. Back to the play though. It was in a pretty small theatre so I don't think everybody that wanted to go was able to go. I know we went Friday night and needed to get 3 seats but only 2 were available so we bought tickets for the next night. The stage was really well designed, the clothing fit the characters perfectly, the writing was excellent, everything was superb it just all brought the play together and made me feel not like I was watching the play but that I was each character in the play. I was sitting on the left side of the stage so that sometimes obscured my view but otherwise I have no complaints. I really like how tension seem to be balanced on objects on the stage. The actors would be like two people balanced on a tee-toter constantly pulling the emotion of the situation from one to the other with the object as a stable center piece. There was one scene where Hal and Claire were arguing because Hal wanted to go inside the house to speak to Catherine. The door was the focal point so it was often between them but when one character would advance on the other character they would cross the door and push into the other persons territory. Claire was the strongest in the argument so she often had Hal pinned on his side of the door, Hal would generally only reach the door but not get beyond because he was in a weak state unable to see Catherine, his love interest, he felt weak and not in control of the situation where as Claire who cared about the well-being of her sister was steadfast in her defense. I really enjoyed the play and am sad to know that so many others will not be able to enjoy it.

What is a Poetry Slam and where can I find one?

God Bless
